The Diablo Valley German Shepherd Dog Club formed in 1971 and, with subsequent approval from the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, became licensed by the American Kennel Club to hold conformation shows and obedience trials. The primary objective of our club is to protect and advance the interests of the German Shepherd breed.
Our members include some of the top German Shepherd Dog breeders in Northern California, and owners of top-performing obedience and rally, herding, agility, and nose work dogs. We are also proud moms and dads of amazing rescued German Shepherds.
We present a variety of educational programs and events to meet this goal. We hold two specialty conformation shows and obedience trials each year. We sponsor educational seminars, temperament tests, herding instinct tests, and puppy matches. The club also has several social events during the year such as our summer meetings in the park and annual Christmas party at which long-standing and new members get to share experiences, information and just have a good time.
We are very proud to be among the first of our breed to have a vitally needed and highly successful Rescue Program. Members formed "Homeless German Shepherd Rescue" in 1990 to aid in the adoption of the many lost and abandoned German Shepherds found in pounds and shelters throughout Northern California. The now Golden State German Shepherd Rescue works directly with shelters, humane societies, and city and county animal facilities to pick up, foster, then place these abandoned German Shepherds in safe, loving homes. The Club is located in Northern California in San Francisco's East Bay.
We publish a quarterly newsletter, Round the Shepherd Ring, that contains original articles about all things having to do with German Shepherd Dogs, show results and brags, and much more.
